The Class Summary screen gives you an overall view of how all learners in the class are performing. It is a great way to spot trends, highlight concerns and quickly view assessment information.

You can use the timeframe and assessment filters along with the options on the screen to narrow down the assessments or adjust the colour coding. The Class Summary screen includes both continuous and summative assessments that you directly enter into SchoolWise or import from other systems such as your school MIS/SIS system.

Let's look at how to use the Class Summary assessment screen.

How to access the Class Summary Assessment Screen

Click the View and Edit button in the Gradebook and then click the Class Summary option from the menu. This is located under the Assessments section.

This displays the Class Summary screen. A list of learners is shown on the left and a list of assessments across the top. Each cell contains the grade for the assessment and is colour coded to show how the learner performed. You can click on a cell to see more details of the assessment.

How to use the Class Summary screen

Assessment Details

The list of assessments across the top of the screen displays the details of the assessment along with the class average.

The name of the assessment is displayed first. Below is the date of the assessment and the type of assessment (assignment, task/activity or schoolwork). You also see the grading scale that was used with the assessment.

The next row is the class average for the assessment which is normalised as a percentage.

Learner Grade

Each assessment column represents the grade given to each learner. The default colour assigned to each cell is determined if the learner was above or below the class average grade (displayed under the details of the assessment column heading).

You also see the subject level assigned to the learner when they completed the assessment. This is displayed in the bottom right corner of the cell.

You can click on a learner grade to display more details about the learner and the assessment.

Levels and Target Grades

Next to each learner is their subject level and a teacher's target grade. You can choose to display these along with other options by clicking the Options button located just under the Timeframe filters on the right-hand side of the screen.

You can adjust the Level and the Target Grade from this screen by clicking on the cell next to the learner. In the case of the level, you can adjust the subject level for the entire class by clicking the Level column heading.

Filtering data and assessments

The list of assessments displayed on the screen is determined by the Timeframe filters and the Assessment filters.

Timeframe filters

The Timeframe filters allow you to view assessments for a given time period. The default timeframe is This Year. The Timeframe filters are always located under the navigation buttons on the right-hand side of the screen.

The selected Timeframe is indicated by a red underline and bolded text. To change a timeframe simply click on it.

Assessment Filter

The Assessment filter enables you to filter by the type of assessment. The default option is to view all assessment types.

You can filter by assignments, task/activity or schoolwork. You can also filter assessments that you have aligned to learning outcomes from units of learning in the Curriculum Planner.

Printing and Exporting

You can print or export all of the View and Edit screens in the Gradebook. Click on the Print button to view the options. The print to PDF generates a report based on the options you selected on the screen (timeframe, filter and options) and downloads the file to your device.

The export to a file option generates a CSV file (spreadsheet) which you can open with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
