Target grades are a useful metric in both managing the expectations of a learner and also a useful metric in helping to determine their performance.
There are two types of target grades available to use in SchoolWise;
Teacher target grade
Learner target grade
The teacher's target grade is set by you and is not visible to the learner therefore it can only be adjusted by you.
The learner's target grade is set by the learner and can only be adjusted by them.
Let's look at how we can set both options in the Gradebook.
Note: the target grade is stored with each assessment. If there is no target grade at the time of assessment then no target grade will be saved. When you update a target grade, it will only affect assessments from that point onward. It will not retrospectively update previous assessments.
Target grades will carry over year after year within the same subject unless you update them.
Updating teacher target grades from the dashboard
First, make sure you are on the Gradebook Dashboard. Then, click on the Settings button to display the list of learners and their target grades.
To set a target grade simply enter the percentage value in the field next to the learner. Once you are done, click the Update button to save your changes.
Updating teacher target grades from the class summary screen (alternative way)
First, make sure you are on the Class Summary screen from the View and Edit menu in the Gradebook. You will see a Target Grade column next to each learner.
Click on the target grade next to the learner to display the Target Grade screen. Enter the target grade for the learner and click the Update button.
Updating a learner's target grade from their Gradebook
Learners can update their target grade by clicking the Target Grade button in their Gradebook. This will display the target grade screen.
The learner can simply enter their target grade into the field and click the Update button.
Where can target grades be displayed to help determine performance
The target grades can be used on all the View and Edit screens where relevant. On some of the screens the target grade will be displayed by default and on other screens you can enable it.
Let's take a look at some examples and how you can enable it.
Learner Performance Screen
Here you can see both the Teacher's Target Grade and the Learner's Target Grade are visible on the performance chart. The Assessment Summary grid has the option of enabling the options to display them.
Class Summary Screen
Here you can see the Teacher Target Grade is displayed by default on the class summary screen. Clicking the Options button we can see how to enable or disable the target grade options for both the teacher and learner.
We can also see another option which is to Set to teachers' target grade. This will adjust the colour coding on the report to show Red = did not reach the target grade or Green = did reach the target grade.
