Introduction
Teachers use the Gradebook to help understand and support their learners. There is a separate Gradebook for each class. The Gradebook enables you to capture, report and analyse data and information. It does this by bringing assessment data and critical information needed to help support each learner together in one place. This creates a holistic view for you to help drive better outcomes.
The Gradebook can be broken down into the following key areas;
Dashboard
Capturing Assessments
Analysis and Insights
Let's take a look at each of the areas individually and see how they can help you.
Dashboard
The dashboard is the first screen you will see when you visit the Gradebook. It provides up-to-date, real-time information on the class and on each individual learner.
The dashboard displays the academic performance of the class with key information such as the class average, who is improving and the number of assessments. The filters will allow you to "drill in" to this data.
Next to each learner is specific information such as their subject level, their average grade and their subject performance. You can click the performance icon to "drill in" to this data and see how they are performing.
Also next to each learner is any critical information you need to know in order to support them in your class. You can click on the indicators to display specific details. This allows you to quickly see who may require specific attention or needs.
Lastly, if you need to capture a note, message a year head or other teachers of a learner you can access all of this and more by clicking on the actions button next to the learner. You can also view their full learner profile from the actions menu too.
Capturing Assessments
One of the best things about the Gradebook in SchoolWise is having all of your assessment data together in one place. The Gradebook also integrates with other systems such as Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams. This enables you to continue to use those tools to capture assessments and import them into the Gradebook later without the need for any double entry.
The summative assessment data from your school MIS/SIS system for term exams can also be available in the Gradebook along with your own continuous assessment data. This means it is also included in the analysis and you don't have to be switching between systems.
There are two ways to capture assessments through the Gradebook. You can access both ways by clicking the Add Gradebook button which is available only on the Dashboard.
The two ways are;
Quick Add
Add or Import
Quick Add
This option enables you to quickly capture grades for an assessment task or activity. You only need to provide a minimal amount of information such as the name, date and provide a grade for each learner.
Add or Import
The Add or Import option enables you to select a type of assessment you want to add from the list and provide more detailed information about the assessment. The types of assessment you can add are;
Task or Activity
Schoolwork
Import
Task or Activity
This is similar to the Quick Add option. You can provide more grading options such as class or learner feedback, align the assessment to outcomes or link it to a project/topic.
Schoolwork
This is a quick way to record who is turning in their work and who is not. Think of it as a roll call but for schoolwork.
Import
The import option allows you to import assessments from Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams without the need to double-enter any information. You can select which assessments you want to import such as quizzes, assignments or OneNote.
Analysis and Insights
One of the most powerful benefits of using the Gradebook in SchoolWise is the analysis and insights. This helps you understand your impact, and get to the heart of your data so you can drive better outcomes for your learners while helping to support them every step of the way.
You can access these reports and insights from the View and Edit button. The reports are broken down into three distinct sections which are;
Assessments
Learner
Class
Assessments
These screens provide you with the ability to see an overall Class Summary making it easy to spot trends, highlight concerns or benchmark learners against target grades. The List and Edit screen allows you to view all your assessments, make edits such as learners who may have been absent or update feedback. The Projects and Outcomes screens display assessments linked to outcomes or grouped as part of a project or topic.
Learner
These screens focus on an individual learner. The Learner Performance screen is great for parent/teacher meetings or internal care team meetings. The Learner Profile screen details all the information for a learner including any learning, social or emotional needs, support plans and targets while also enabling you to capture notes, send messages or progress notes.
Class
The class screens are mainly comprised of data from other systems or screening tests. This includes CAT4, NGRT and PTM tests. We break down this data into actionable information providing additional context for you to support each learner and tailor the teaching and learning to their specific needs.
