Tags are a great way in Learner Support to segment learners within and across year groups. You can filter learners by a tag right across the entire platform including the report screens. Tags remove the need for messy spreadsheets, static lists, switching between systems and maintaining another system.

Priority tags are a way to use the existing tagging feature in SchoolWise to help emphasise the importance of a tag or just simply make sure it is displayed first. You can also colour code a tag and when coupled with a priority tag, it acts as a great way to help run internal systems or lists.

For example, if you have a spreadsheet or a way in your existing systems of identifying and helping to run a Lean In / Focus In system. This can be easily replaced and made much more efficient by using a priority tag. Another example would be to manage and run a list of learners who are going through personal issues or simply getting support to help with their academic performance. Again, priority tags ensure you can not only manage these lists effectively but also distribute this information to teachers via the Gradebook.

Since tags are available across the platform, you can filter learners in reports like academic tracking, screens like the Learner Support dashboard or even filter them on the Learners screen to get an export.

Let's look at how to create and use a priority tag.

Note: adding, creating and modifying tags is limited to users who have access to Learner Support and the necessary permissions.

You can "upgrade" existing tags you have on the platform and make them a priority tag. This will subsequently affect all Learner Profiles who have the tag assigned to them. This removes the need to create a priority tag to replace an existing one.

Modify an existing tag from the Learner Profile screen

Make sure you are in Learner Support and click on a Learner Profile. Scroll down until you can see the Learner Attributes section on the right-hand side of the screen. Then click the +Add... button.

This will display the Tags screen showing any tags you have already associated with a learner and the list of existing tags to select from. Click on the action button next to the existing tag you want to make a priority tag. In this example, I am going to select Focus In.

Pro Tip: If the tag you want to "upgrade" is already assigned to a learner, simply click the X to temporarily remove it from the associated tags list. This will make the tag appear in the list of tags to select from. You can then follow the rest of the instructions below. When you are done, simply re-add the tag to the learner.

This will then display the Update Tag screen. This is where you can update the name of the tag, select a colour and where you can make the tag a priority. Click on the Priority Tag toggle to set it to Green. In this example, I have set a colour and made it a priority tag. You can see what your tag will look like in the Preview. Once you are done click Update.

You will return to the Tags screen and see your "upgraded" tag in the list. In this example, you can see the colour I selected along with the priority tag icon.

Simply click on the tag to associate it with the Learner Profile.

You will then see it in the list of Associated tags for the learner. Click Close to complete your changes.

The priority tag is displayed on a Learner Profile.

Modify an existing tag from the Tags and Categories screen

Click on the Manage button in Learner Support. Located under the Settings section is the Manage button.

Then click on the Tags and Categories button to display the edit screen.

Under the Learner Tags section simply click the action button next to the existing tag you want to make a priority tag. In this example, I am going to select Focus In.

You will return to the Tags and Categories screen and see your "upgraded" tag in the list.

Where do Teachers see Priority Tags?

One of the benefits of using Priority Tags is to share this information with teachers of the learner. In the Gradebook, Priority Tags are displayed on the Dashboard next to each learner. This way, teachers can quickly see any concerns or critical information about a learner. It also makes it easy for you to distribute this information to those that need it.
