If your school performs CAT4 testing to measure learner ability, then a CAT4 screen will be available to you in the Gradebook. This is an actionable screen with succinct information on each learner as a result of the test.

How to access the CAT4 Screen

Click the View and Edit button in the Gradebook and then click the CAT4 option from the menu. This is located under the Class section.

This displays the CAT4 screen with the date of the test under the screen heading. You see a summary of the test including where each learner sits on the Verbal/Spatial plane. A list of learners is shown on the right. Next to each learner are the outputs from their test. You can click on each learner to display more details on the results from their test.

How to use the CAT4 Screen

Test Parameters

Show at the top of the list of learners are the test parameters. This shows the "cutoff" point for learners who Require Investigation. These learners are marked with a Red block next to their name. It also shows the value for identifying "gifted/talented" learners. These learners are marked with a Green block next to their names.

Learner CAT4 Results

You can click on a learner or on the performance icon to view details of their CAT4 results.

This will display the CAT4 learner panel. The radar chart on the panel shows each of the four batteries (verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial) and how the learner performed. The national average is indicated by a Yellow line.

The Test Summary shows the details of the test such as the date, age of the learner, if they have a learning preference and their differentiation band.

Located at the bottom of the panel is a summary for the learner based on the output from their CAT4 scores. You will see implications for teaching and learning along with some recommended teaching patterns to best support the learner.

Differentiation band

The differentiation band for each learner is initially set when the CAT4 data is imported to SchoolWise. The name of the bands and the "cutoff" values to determine which band each learner is assigned are set in Learner Support by a member of the management, leadership or care team in your school.

You can change the band for a learner in your subject by using the Settings button on the Dashboard of the Gradebook. Shown on the CAT4 screen is the band assigned to the learner by the test along with their current band (set by you in the Gradebook).

Learning Preference

The Learning Preference column shows if the learner has a particular preference in how they learn (verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial). This is determined by the test and can be useful to understand the best way to deliver your teaching and learning to best support that learner. Clicking the name of a learner or the performance icon to display their test details includes some of this information for you.

Printing and Exporting

You can print or export all of the View and Edit screens in the Gradebook. Click on the Print button to view the options. The Print to PDF generates a report based on the options you selected on the screen (timeframe, filter and options) and downloads the file to your device.

The export to a file option generates a CSV file (spreadsheet) which you can open with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
