Learner Support comes populated with a list of tags. The goal for your school is to build a bank of tags that work for you. This means creating new tags and refining the existing list. This article will show you how to create a new tag and the options available.

Tags are a great way in Learner Support to segment learners within and across year groups. You can filter learners by a tag right across the entire platform including the report screens. Tags remove the need for messy spreadsheets, static lists, switching between systems and maintaining another system.

Let's look at how to create and manage tags in Learner Support

Note: You must have access to Learner Support and have the necessary permissions to create and modify tags.

Create a new tag from a learner profile

On a Learner Profile, scroll down until you come to Learner Attributes section. You will then see Tags. Simply click on the + Add Tag... button to display the Tag Learners screen.

In the Search or add new tag field, simply start typing the name of your new tag.

Since what you typed in the field does not match an existing tag in the list, you will be prompted to Create new tag. All you need to do is click on this option to create a new tag.

This will add the tag to the list so it will be available in the future, and it will associate it with the learner.

Create a new tag from Tags and Categories

The Tags and Categories screen lets you create and manage tags. You can easily create multiple tags, modify existing tags or even delete tags. Click on the Manage button in Learner Support. Located under the Settings section is the Manage button.

Then click on the Tags and Categories button to display the edit screen.

Under the Learner Tags section, simply start typing the name of your new tag in the Search or add new tag field.

Since what you typed in the field does not match an existing tag in the list, you will be prompted to Create new tag. All you need to do is click on this option to create a new tag.

Colour code your tags

You can colour-code a tag for greater emphasis of importance or to use it at different levels within an internal system. For example, Red could mean a more serious concern whereas Green could indicate a more positive situation.

Click the action menu next to a tag from the Add Tag screen on a Learner Profile or from the Tags and Categories screen.

This will then display the Update Tag screen. This is where you can update the name of the tag, select a colour and where you can make the tag a priority. Click on a colour to assign it to the tag. You can see what your tag will look like in the Preview. Once you are done click Update.

Priority Tags

Priority tags are a way to use the existing tagging feature in SchoolWise to help emphasise the importance of a tag or just simply make sure it is displayed first. When you colour code a tag and make it a priority tag, it acts as a great way to help run internal systems or lists.
